Botox Injections

Botulinum Toxin A is a potent toxin that is used in extremely dilute concentration to produce temporary muscle paralysis.

Procedure

Botox injections temporarily paralyze a muscle that creates a crease or line in the face thus erasing it.

Results

The effect usually lasts about 4 months.

Indications

Dynamic facial lines especially around the eyes. Evaluation of the face in repose and animation is often critical to successful treatment.

Complications

Upper lid drop occurs when a trickle of Botox affects the eyelid levator muscle. Fortunately, it is completely reversible with time.

Recovery

There is minimal swelling for under 1 hour afterwards.  You can certainly go out the same evening. We do not believe that volitional excessive animation is necessary afterwards. Someone who had received  it  very frequently and over years can develop “resistance”; meaning, the medication stops working because the body has created antibodies that block its action.

Anesthesia

Topical anesthetic cream.
